Seasons

I’ve given this a lot of thought and find the comparisons of the steps in life to the changes in seasons is endless. I didn’t realize how often I referred to that over the years until now.

Even as far back as when our kids were young, and each new step they took in life, and sometimes those “steps” could get a bit annoying… Anyone remember the “why” phase? I remember through each growth spurt and “testing” period, my husband would comment “Can’t wait for this part to be over…” And I can’t say I didn’t agree with him … on some things….

NO I don’t miss picking the plate and food up off the floor. As our son didn’t have the words to communicate yet, his way of telling us he was done was by making a clean sweep of his highchair tray.

And I can’t say I miss soaking up drink spills from our carpet as our energetic, excited daughter would miraculously manage to knock over my drink that I did my ever-lovin’ best to hide out of sight from her bouncy exuberance.

However, in those moments, albeit frustrating, I knew how fleeting and precious they were…

A Time & A Season finds me now with fond memories of their innocent, exciting explorations through life while looking forward to my next visit with our creative, curious, miracle grandson. Learning to slow down and savor these moments was the best lesson I could have learned over the years as I transition into my empty-nesting “season.”
